Introduction

In our highly interactive and constantly changing business environment we need instruments that allow structuring complexity via visualization, ordering, abstraction or reduction. This is key to enable constructive and focused discussions across individuals or groups.

A simple two-dimensional map represents a strong basis for a structured discussion. It enables mutual understanding and serves as a starting point to further expand the exploration of the theme. So far we have developed a few component maps that we happily share with the wider public.

The definition of a map and its components is as follows:

• We identify competence areas (columns) and management layers (rows) and allocated the components accordingly.
• Each component has its own standards, processes, etc. and is operated in- or outside the organization
• The model serves as a powerful basis to assess a variety of dimensions e.g. maturity, costs, priorities, application coverage, etc. and visualizes the criteria in a so called “heat map”.
• Once a heat map is developed it supports communication very effectively – One A4 sheet for a quite complex subject.

IT Infrastructure Map

• The Behavioral Transformation Map gives an overview about all areas of change management support in a transformation program (or project) and also shows on what management level this support is assigned to.

Multi Project Management (KEY-9®) Map

• The Multi Project Management (KEY-9®) Map represents components which are relevant for a project-friendly environment enabling an organization to initiate, manage and conclude a number of concurrent projects.

Human Resource Management Map

• The Human Resource Management Map, represents a component map to be considered when defining and designing the long term Human Resource Management Development.
